Tuition Refunds and Insurance
Tuition Refunds
Students must drop courses by the last day to drop listed on the academic calendar to avoid tuition charges. After that date, Westminster uses a pro-rated tuition refund schedule for the first few weeks of each semester for full-semester-length courses. Westminster also offers tuition insurance that supplements the university’s refund schedule to help students who are forced to withdraw from all courses due to physical or mental health conditions.
Tuition refunds are mailed to your address on file. You can verify that your address is current through Self-Service.
Tuition charges and refunds are determined by the date when the drop or withdrawal was processed by the Registrar's Office. Dropping courses can have an impact on financial aid as well as tuition charges. There are some courses that do not follow the refund schedule for the semester as they either do not meet for the entire semester or meet for only a few sessions. Refund schedules are outlined for those types of courses as well.

If a refund contains any federal loan or grant monies and has not been cashed after 240 days of issuance, Westminster University will return the funds to the Department of Education.
If a refund does not contain any federal loan or grant monies, Westminster University will attempt to locate the student for 3 years. After 3 years, the university will send the monies to the State Unclaimed Property Division.
University Refund Schedules
The university’s refund schedule always applies regardless of the reason for withdrawal and even if you are only dropping 1 or 2 courses. If you are withdrawing from all courses due to physical or mental health conditions and are enrolled in the tuition insurance program, you should additionally refer to the refund schedule for the insurance program, which supplements the university’s refund schedule.

Tuition Insurance
In Fall 2023, Westminster University will continue the opt-out tuition insurance program through A.W.G Dewar, Inc. All students will be automatically enrolled in the program and charged approximately 1.1% of their tuition, registration fees, and housing and meal plans unless they choose to waive this coverage.
Many Westminster students encounter unexpected physical or mental health challenges each year. This coverage provides students and their families needed protection for their educational investment. Westminster students with tuition insurance are eligible for a 75% refund should they face injury, sickness, or mental health issues that result in withdrawing from all of their fall or spring courses. Students and families who do not want tuition insurance will need to complete a waiver each year to opt out of this coverage. The deadline to opt-out of tuition insurance for the 2023-34 Academic Year is Sept. 1, 2023.
Westminster strongly encourages families to participate in tuition insurance to prevent the stresses of an all-too-common scenario: a student will experience an unexpected physical or mental tragedy, withdraw from courses, and be obligated to pay tuition, room, and board. Tuition insurance allows the student to focus on their recovery and return to their studies.
Fall 2023 Tuition Insurance Refund Schedule
