Areas of Expertise: Group development and facilitation, outdoor leadership, outdoor program management, foundations of outdoor and experiential education, student and staff development in outdoor recreation Biography: Dr. Kellie E. Gerbers joined the Westminster School of Education faculty in August 2017. Prior to that, she spent approximately 10 years in collegiate outdoor recreation managing outdoor programs at the University of Georgia and Florida State University as well as overseeing a campus recreation marketing department. In her time as a practitioner, Kellie supervised several hundred student employees and logged over 1,000 hours on challenge courses and in outdoor technical skill trainings. Kellie?s research interests pertaining to outdoor recreation are primarily focused on organizational culture and student development. In 2016, she received the Jim Rennie Leadership Award from the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education (AORE) for her contributions to students pursuing careers in the outdoor field. She also received the 2009-2010 Sherrill W. Ragans? Leadership and Service Award from the FSU Hardee Center and Higher Education Program. Her professional service includes currently serving on the AORE Board of Directors. Prior to joining the Board, she chaired the AORE Student Development Committee from 2013 ? 2015. She is also involved in NIRSA as a facilitator of the Women Leading Women workshop and is a graduate of the NIRSA School of Collegiate Recreation Level II. Dr. Gerbers has certifications as Wilderness First Responder (NOLS Wilderness Medicine), CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid (American Red Cross), Leave No Trace Master Educator, and Climbing Wall Instructor (American Mountain Guides Association). She received her PhD in higher education from Florida State University in 2017. She also has a master?s degree in higher education (M.S., 2010) from FSU and bachelor?s degrees in history (B.A. 2008) and Spanish (B.A., 2008) from the University of Georgia.
